Narrative
HAZEN, AR – A man and a woman died, and four others sustained injuries in a wrong-way crash along the interstate in central Prairie County on Monday.
The accident occurred around 1:56 a.m. on I-40 near mile marker 198 in the city of Hazen. This is about 45 miles east of Little Rock.
Police say that a westbound 2018 Nissan entered the eastbound side of the interstate and collided head-on with an eastbound 2008 Chevrolet.
The crash killed two passengers in the Nissan. Authorities identified the victims as 66-year-old Cynthia Brown and 47-year-old James C. Southerland.
Medics transported four additional people, including two minors, to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
A full investigation is underway to determine what caused the driver of the Nissan to cross into oncoming traffic.
