Narrative
OZARK, AR – A fatal accident on I-40 near mile marker 35 claimed the life of John Otis Lee Owen, a 29-year-old Atlanta resident, on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:21 a.m. under rainy conditions, as reported by authorities.
Troopers say Owen attempted to negotiate a left turn on a curved section of the interstate, resulting in his vehicle hydroplaning. The Chevrolet he was driving skidded across the right fog line and veered off the north side of the roadway.
The vehicle collided with a concrete culvert and a tree before ultimately rolling onto its passenger side. Owen succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.
Three passengers in Owen’s vehicle, identified as Caleb Renard Ward, Jalen Juwan Quyion Ward, and Quantreell D. Bechk Jr., were injured in the incident and were promptly transported to Mercy and Baptist Health in Fort Smith for medical attention.
